..and their relevance to the hypoglycemic diet.
are we saying that they need to be eliminated totally from our diet, or can we have some as long as they are in addition to complex carbs?
for example, i like to make mashed potatos, with both standard white as well as the sweet potatos which are complex carbs. i wouldn't get rid of sweet potatos for the simple plain variety, but i would like to have a bit of both.
if simple carbs become harmful sugars then i'd understand they they need to be avoided.
thanks guys

I don't think there are much simple carbs in potatoes, so probably don't need to worry there.
The main thing to avoid in simple sugars is stuff like soda, candy, juice!, and that junk food that you love. Anything with added sugar is to be avoided. Simple sugars like those in fruits are a little different and they are healthier, i.e. fructose. So you don't really need to avoid fruit like your do the candy, just be aware that fruit has simple sugar, so don't overdo it, and also try to see if you feel any worse after eating fruit, because then you might want to avoid it for a while because the fructose sugar could be effecting you. You need to be careful if the sugar of whatever you eat effects your blood sugar; in the long run this condition could lead to more serious diseases like diabetes. From what I know, hypoglycemia is basically a sensitivity to sugar; so you would probably have symptoms if you eat sugar.

thanks mate. i have found in the past when my diet was poor i would occasionally feel weak all of a sudden and crave sugar. i'd feel pretty poorly until i got some sugary food in me. something like fruit wouldn't make me feel better, it would be sugary cereal, yogurts, chocolate bars and fizzy drinks. that sort of thing.
now that i am attempting to nail the hypoglycemic diet, even though i'm not 100% there yet, my diet has improved dramatically, and these 'sugar rushes' are less common, probably because i'm making sure i eat every 3 hours or so.
i'm glad to hear white potatos aren't too bad, i assumed when Jur set out to avoid white rice, white pasta etc in the hypoglycemic diet it would include plain white potatos.
i spoke to paulo on the other forum, he is a top guy like you said and is helping me out with the allergy/intolerance testing etc. would be good to have him on this forum also

Yeah they probably aren't too bad, sweet potatoes and yams are the best for you. You want to avoid the white rice because it is processed so that nutrients are taken out, and brown rice is good because it still has those nutrients, hence the brown color. White rice just looks more shiny I guess. The same goes for white flour.

Good luck with your hypoglycemic diet, it will get easier because you will realize that stuff like drinking sodas is just dumb and you become like: why would someone drink a coke that is retarded, does it even taste good, etc, etc.

Potatoes have a higher sugar response than a candy bar
