As of 2010, there were an estimated 35.6 million people with dementia worldwide. This number will nearly double every 20 years, to an estimated 65.7 million in 2030, and 115.4 million in 2050. Much of the increase will be in developing countries. Already 58% of people with dementia live in developing countries, but by 2050 this will rise to 71%. The fastest growth in the elderly population is taking place in China, India, and their south Asian and western Pacific neighbours. See: Graph: chart-dementia-numbers.png The Global Voice on Dementia at: www.alz.co.uk/research/statisticsMore statistics: ⁃ One in eight people age 65 and older (13 percent) has Alzheimer’s disease.A2 ⁃ Nearly half of people age 85 and older (45 percent) have Alzheimer’s disease.A3 ⁃ Of those with Alzheimer’s disease, an estimated 4 percent are under age 65, 6 percent are 65 to 74, 44 percent are 75 to 84, and 46 percent are 85 or older. Source At present there is no known effective treatment for Alzheimer's Disease and the only hope so far is to take step to prevent the disease from developing in life as early as possible. Studies have shown that hypoglycemia (or pre-diabtetes or diabetes or Metabolic Syndrome) is major forerunner of Alzheimer's disease. Dr Chris Reading (An Australian Orthomolecular Psychiatrist) suggest that various life long nutritional deficiencies can increase the risk for dementia, He suggest that likely patients should be tested for early-onset dementia as explained in : What can be done to Protect Your Memory: Alzheimer's Disease by Dr Chris Reading
